Developing an environmental conscience

My environmental conscientiousness could be divided into pre-Baby and post-Baby phase.  Whilst I was always conscious of doing my bit for the planet, it was really only after Baby was born that I started to read every label, pay attention to what is recommended, and worry about what may happen if we don't collectively do enough.  I suppose I worry about his future and what the world may be like for him after we are long gone.  I also worry what sorts of chemicals we are exposing him to.

We looked into nappies, weighing the difference between using re-usable ones or biodegradable ones.  We also changed all our household products based on what advice we could find.  Of the ones we have tried, these are the ones that we found and liked.

Naty by Nature Babycare Eco Disposal Nappy Bags - 3 x Packs of 50 (150 Disposal Bags) (Pack of 3) Naty: Nature Babycare nappies.  We considered using re-usable nappies but these would have had to be sent off for specialist cleaning and were too expensive and possibly would have environmental costs added on due to transport and cleaning.  In the end we settled for these.  Baby did not have problems with nappy rash and we never had problems with leaks.  In short, these offered great protection.

We also love all the household products from the Method range.  The dishwasher tablets are not readily available in the U.K.  We have used them before and they were good.  The ones from Ecover do a good job too.  Recently we discovered a new brand of toilet tissues- Who gives a Crap-which uses recycled paper; unlike some of the ones we have used before, these actually work quite well.  For body care we like the Toms range of care products.  In particular I have tried many different deodorants but the Tom's range works well, and so does the Salt of the Earth natural deodorant.
