Butterflies at the Natural History Museum
I have been visiting the Natural History Museum's annual butterfly exhibit for a few years now and this year I thought I would take Baby along. He is only just over 1 year old but has been showing a lot of interest in the animals we visit at Mudchute Farm lately so I thought he might enjoy some close encounters of the flying kind- the butterflies and moths fly free range within the exhibition hall and rest on all sorts of things, including humans. They did not disappoint. Baby had a great time and in the end it was a bit of a challenge to prevent him from trying to catch a butterfly or two, so there was some added excitement for me. He was interested in the plants as well.
We were at the Natural History Museum last Sunday and it was a gloriously sunny day so we sat outside in the garden for lunch. Baby noticed that the pigeons would come round to eat the scraps that had dropped out of his mouth. He found this great fun as he had wanted, but not quite managed, to get close to pigeons until then. He proceeded to pull out the bits of bread and ham he had in his mouth and dropped them on the floor for the pigeons. He was delighted when he was eventually surrounded by pigeons and babbled enthusiastically. I wasn't quite as amused as I don't like pigeons, and some of them were eyeing my lemon and poppyseed muffin greedily.
After lunch, we went to see the dinosaurs. That was another big hit. He doesn't know what they are but I suspect he was impressed by the size of everything, and the animatronic T-rex was definitely his favourite. We left with a plastic T-rex which he hugged to sleep in the car. He later tried to feed it cheese biscuits, as sure sign that he loves his new friend.
