Weaning fun times
I must be the luckiest Mum on earth as Baby seems to have taken to solids really well, just as he has taken to all the changes associated with me going back to work full time. He has remained his happy self and it seems he is enjoying being at creche where he is receiving lots of attention and stimulation.
Although I have been trying with the odd bit of fruit puree at home before I started back at work, I was a bit hesitant in case I gave him too much to eat. Also, he tended to ask for milk when he was with me and could get a bit cranky if he didn't get that but some fruit instead. It was the patience and experience of the staff at the creche, and probably my general absence during the day, that really helped him to move on to solids. All the food is prepared fresh on site and they keep me informed of what he has tried. So far (he's 7.5 months old and has been on solids for a month) there doesn't seem to be anything that he particularly dislikes. He is also getting to try things that I will not normally eat at home- beetroot which I dislike, for example. As he has all his major meals at creche, I only need to give him a snack- rice cake or baby biscuit- and some breast milk in the evening and he's ready for bed. I don't have to worry about food for him too much during the week and can make home-made stuff for him at the weekends when I have a bit more time. Overall, we have a routine that works well and we haven't encountered the usual problems that a lot of parents have. I am convinced that the work done by the staff at the creche has a lot to do with this and cannot thank them enough.
When we are out at the weekends, I take ready-made baby food pouches with me as its less messy than taking home-made stuff. Baby loves everything from Hipp Organic, Ella's kitchen and Plum Organics. I have tasted these as well and I have to say they are rather yummy. In particular, Baby loves Plum Organics four grain cereal at breakfast, mixed in with a bit of Hipp Organic's apple and mango puree- he cannot get enough of the stuff! He also loves steamed carrot sticks, clementines, and peeled apple and pear segments, which he holds and eats himself. Its been really good fun preparing food for him and watching him learn to appreciate food. It can get a bit messy but I love that he is working towards being able to eat 'normal' food with us and am looking forward to that day.
